Regardless of the seasons that may take society, the life a Christian is called to does not change.
Pastor Christopher Jarvis of Christ the King Catholic Church in Acme, Michigan, recently addressed the congregation regarding the recent election, even though as he wrote the final tallies had not yet been made.
Yet, even before it was known, the outcome of the election was already irrelevant to the response Catholics should have in how they live their lives, Jarvis wrote.
“Jesus tells us, ‘Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you,’ (Mt. 5:1-12). Our duty is to live our faith, speak the truth out of Love for God and neighbor,” he wrote.
Ultimately, “we serve only one King, that is Jesus Christ the King!” he wrote to parishioners. Whatever power is in place on earth, that does not change the true calling of the faithful.
“We have the Gospel and Tradition before us, and we have 2000 years of the Magisterium which forms our conscience,” Jarvis wrote “What a blessing -that we have the freedom to profess our faith as we do every week at Mass, “I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth…. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God… I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life” (Nicene Creed).”
Each member of the Church must live their lives striving to be “Catholic to the max!” he wrote.
“ St. Augustine placed our position in perspective when he said, ‘God placed us halfway between heaven and earth. The closer we come to one the farther we get from the other,’” Jarvis wrote.
