The Rev. Peter Wigton of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Charlevoix reflected on the Parable of the Sower as he wrote about cultivating our hearts in the July 12 church bulletin.

“I remember when I was a kid and I would hear this parable, I would always think of myself as the rich soil,” Wigton wrote. “We never planted seeds in anything but rich soil. Even though this is true, there are so many more elements to having a fruitful harvest than just the rich soil.”

Wigton said that while good soil does naturally make seed easier to cultivate, there are many factors at play when it comes to creating rich soil. In God's children, these factors include having hearts that are ready to hear and accept God’s word.

Practice, recourse and recognition are all necessary if we wish to have a fruitful life, glorifying God.

“We realize that we were made for greatness, we were made for Divine Life, and that the work needed is well worth the effort, because our fruitfulness leads to our fulfillment,” Wigton wrote.
