The Diocese of Lansing is launching a new initiative titled "On the Road to Emmaus" as part of the year of Eucharistic Revival.

“I invite you to join me (for) On the Road to Emmaus, a new apostolic initiative aimed at helping us grow in knowledge and love for Our Eucharistic Lord,” Bishop Earl Boyea said in a recent tweet. “To sign up for a weekly communication from me containing teaching, inspiration and a challenge, text RTE to 84576.”

The program is scheduled to begin on Sunday, a day that coincide with the Feast of Corpus Christi, and will run until June 2024. It will conclude just before the National Eucharistic Congress, which is scheduled for July 2024, the Diocese of Lansing said in a release.

As part of the “On the Road to Emmaus” initiative, Boyea will offer weekly challenges to individuals interested in participating. The communication between Boyea and the faithful will take place through text or email on a weekly basis. This initiative will include inspiring testimonies from eucharistic witnesses and engaging discussions, aiming to promote spiritual growth and renewal within the diocese, the diocese said.

The National Eucharistic Revival is a comprehensive and multi-phase initiative designed to foster spiritual renewal and address divisions within the church. Spanning across various dioceses nationwide, this revival aims to revitalize faith and promote spiritual well-being. The culmination of this revival will take place in July 2024 during the National Eucharistic Congress held in Indianapolis. It is anticipated that approximately 80,000 Catholics will gather at this event, according to National Eucharistic Revival.

One of the questions people struggle with is, ”Does God know me?” to which Boyea responds with a resounding “Yes.”

"Not only does God know you, He loves you! He loves you so much that He sent his Son into the world to suffer, and to sacrifice himself, for us. For you! For me!,” he said in a video posted on YouTube. “But, we are broken. We are of perishable body, conflicted soul, in an imperfect world. But, Jesus gives us a divine remedy that can heal us and put those broken pieces back together: The Holy Eucharist. This Feast of Corpus Christi in June, I will be launching "On the Road to Emmaus", a weekly challenge where, together, we will grow in knowledge, and hence, fall more deeply in love with our Eucharistic Lord.”
