At “Rise,” an event for young Catholic teenagers, high schoolers who are looking to dive deeper into their faith will have a chance to hear from Bishop Gerard Battersby and Catholic radio host Katie McGrady.
There will also be opportunities to receive the sacraments.
The Archdiocese of Detroit is hosting the February event.
"SAVE THE DATE! 9-12th graders are invited to attend RISE on Feb. 5, 2023!” the archdiocese said in a tweet this week. “Teens will hear from Bishop Battersby and Catholic Radio host, @KatiePMcGrady, participate in workshop opportunities, small groups, and Liturgy! Visit http://risedetroityouth.org to learn more and register.”
The all-day event will run from 8:15 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. on Feb. 5.
McGrady is a Catholic radio host and influencer. Her website says she is also a mom, wife, speaker and podcaster. She has experience in youth ministry and has traveled around the country speaking at parishes, retreats and conferences.
McGrady hosts the "Ave Explores" podcast, which discusses topics related to the Catholic faith. She also hosts "Like a Mother," a new podcast about motherhood. She also regularly writes for Blessed is She, Our Sunday Visitor, Aleteia, and the Grotto Network and has appeared as a Catholic commentator on CNN. Recently, McGrady started "The Katie McGrady Show" on Sirius XM 129.
Rise will also feature Battersby, Fr. Adam Nowak, Fr. Craig Giera and Sister Felicity Madigan.
The event will take place at Mercy High School in Farmington Hills. Parishes and schools that register 10 or more students by Dec. 27 will receive free RISE Detroit 2023 T-shirts. There is also a 25% early discount for students who sign up before Jan. 6.
