The Archdiocese of Detroit is offering support for parents that have suffered the loss of a child.
Parents that have lost a child can attend a virtual small group, which will meet on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. for six weeks beginning Mar. 8.
"The extraordinary cross of losing a child should never be carried alone," the Archdiocese of Detroit wrote in a Feb. 21 Facebook post. "Find consolation and hope by journeying with others bearing this heavy burden, through brokenness to the place of belovedness this #Lent. Join a virtual small group study for parents grieving the loss of a child, to reflect on and discuss the Red Bird Ministries Lenten Journal, 'I am Beloved, Not Broken.'"
Participants can download a free copy of the journal here.
"Approximately 53,000 children die each year in the United States," according to the National Center for Child Death Review Policy and Practice as reported by Metro Parent. That means each year more than 100,000 parents face the unthinkable – the loss of a child. With that loss comes the reality that the hopes, dreams and expectations they held for their son or daughter will never be realized. And yet life goes on – somehow."
