The Archdiocese of Detroit invites the faithful to celebrate the Mass of the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament at 11 a.m. Sunday.
“All are invited to Mass on the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, celebrated by Archbishop Allen Vigneron at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit," the archdiocese posted on Facebook Nov. 9. The post also stated the mass will be live streamed for those who cannot attend in person.
"Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Sunday, November 21st," the archdiocese posted. "During Mass, Archbishop Vigneron will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation on this year’s adult confirmandi. You can also watch the Mass livestreamed through our AOD social media channels and at aod.org/livemasses,”
Pope Pius XI instituted the feast day in 1925 to "remind Catholics that although a nation’s governments may come and go, Jesus will always reign,” according to the U.S. Conference of Bishops. In 2020, Pope Frances said young people should be included by churches and parishes; the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe is also a "Global Celebration of Young People," the USCCB states on its website.
The Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament's celebration includes a Sacrament of Confirmation for its young-adult confirmandi, the archdiocese announced. During the confirmation, Archbishop Vignron will bestow the gifts of the Holy Spirit to the confirmed. The gifts are "wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel, fortitude, piety, and fear of the Lord,” according to Brittanica.
The Archdiocese of Detroit also announced the times and locations of other celebrations of the Mass of the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, to its Facebook page.
