Sacred Heart Major Seminary (SHMS) will welcome people interested in faith opportunities to attend a webinar at 7 p.m. on Nov. 16.

National Vocation Awareness Week will be celebrated this year Nov. 7-13. The week is dedicated to helping people considering a vocation in religious life to explore their options and learn more about the process of joining the priesthood, diaconate or consecrated life, according to United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
“Learn to defend and share your Catholic faith as a joyful missionary disciple," SHMS said in a Facebook post. "At Sacred Heart our programs in theology and ministry will deepen your knowledge of Catholicism and give you the confidence to share your faith effectively with others. Join us Nov. 16 for a presentation and discussion led by staff, faculty, students and alumni to learn more."
Sacred Heart Seminary was founded in 1918 by Rev. Michael Gallagher, the Bishop of Detroit. Before the founding of the seminary, the early Church of Detroit had struggled to provide enough priests to serve the growing Catholic community in Michigan and had even recruited priests from Europe, according to SHMS
U.S. News reports there are about 450 students at Sacred Heart. Tuition costs are approximately $21,000.
"Since its inception, Sacred Heart Major Seminary has enjoyed the financial and prayerful support of diocesan officials, alumni and the people of the Archdiocese of Detroit," the SHMS website said. "The seminary has responded to the needs of the Church of Detroit and beyond by preparing priests, deacons and laymen and women to be heralds of the gospel and especially today missionaries of the New Evangelization."
