The faithful of the Diocese of Lansing have been released from the obligation to attend Holy Mass on Sundays and other Holy Days of Obligation until Tuesday, Feb. 16, which precedes the liturgical season of Lent.
“As previously provided, the faithful are reminded that while the Sunday obligation to attend Mass is dispensed, all are nevertheless obligated to keep the Lord’s day holy,” Bishop Earl Boyea said, the St. Augustine Church of Howell, Mich., church bulletin reported.
He recommended parishioners pray either personally or as a family and suggested following a Sunday Mass broadcast by internet, television or radio.
He also encouraged parishes to continue using social media to expand access to the faithful, the church bulletin reported.
Public health orders remain subject to constitutional protections including the free exercise of religion, which keeps an exemption from penalty for religious worship.
Liturgical guidelines continue to govern how public Masses, sacraments and devotions continue to follow high standards of public health and hygiene about COVID-19.
Since these guidelines were introduced, no known outbreaks of COVID-19 have been reported in any Diocese of Lansing parish.
