Christ the King Catholic Church in Williamsburg shared a note from Rev. Christopher Jarvis on the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time in its weekly bulletin.
“I want to thank you all for your fidelity and commitment to this parish. There is not a day that goes that does not bring me to some example of the Heart of Christ in this parish fami- ly. Whether it is an email, a comment, a gift, a text, a letter or just a simple smile it truly makes my day. What a gift to have been asked to minister to this parish,” Rev. Jarvis wrote.
While it was initially a foreboding thought to follow in the footsteps of the beloved Rev. Cotter, Rev. Jarvis wrote that the generosity of those who attend Christ the King.
“This time and place has been in the mind of God from all eternity and He has great plans for us if we respond with a generous heart to His calling. I don’t know exactly what it is He has in mind but I am excited to walk the road and find out,” Rev. Jarvis wrote.
We are told that this life is a pilgrimage, but rather than it being closed-minded on our walk of the narrow road, we should be able to have a full view.
“If we truly enter into pil- grimage then we will ‘... go into everything with curiosity and pleasure, and be a brother to the streets and trees and to all the new world [we] find,’” Rev. Jarvis wrote.
If we truly desire to be saints, we must serve God and our brothers and sisters fully in this life. We are called to be pilgrims in our daily lives, to our families, to our friends and the like. At the same time, we can also be pilgrims in a real sense by going to some location for a religious pilgrimage, which can be very advantageous.
“Live to be a saint! With the Heart of a child,” Rev. Jarvis wrote.
