Last Sunday, Gesu Catholic Church help an annual financial review to look at challenges the parish has been facing, particularly with the retirements of several parish staff members
"I want to thank all who participated, both online and in person, in our annual financial review last Sunday. I want to send my gratitude to Bill Felosak, the chair of the Finance Council; Carol Chupka, Business Manager; Jim Hart, Opera-tions Manager; Fr. Peter; Mark Friday, Gesu Principal; and the entire Finance Council who have worked diligently through COVID to maintain appropriate financial controls for our church and school. As we all know, running and man-aging any organization at this time has unusual and unexpected challenge," Fr. Phil wrote in the bulletin.
Christa Laurin, former Gesu principal, Carol Chupka and Carl Clendenning, the parish musician for over thirty-seven years, will all be retiring and the parish has found successors for the positions.
Parish musician positions will not be held by a full time musician due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Our liturgical praise and worship are a much different experience now. At this time, to maintain proper control of our finances and to fill our liturgies with music, we have decided to hire a few different contract musicians to cover our masses during COVID, and to work with Clay Barker and a few parishioners who continue to step up and sing and assist musically on the week-ends," Fr. Phil wrote in the bulletin. "Once we get a handle on this pandemic and are free to sing again safely, and when we are ready financially, we will pursue hiring a fulltime music director. I hope this day comes soon!"
