St. Joseph Catholic Church in Howell shared a reflection on the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
We see that the Pharisees are trying to trick Jesus once again in Matthew 22:34-40, asking what the greatest commandment is.
“Doesn’t sound too hard, does it? Not until you realize there are 613 commandments in the Torah,” the reflection stated in the bulletin. “No matter which one he chose, it was wrong in the opinion of one of the teachers of the law.”
Jesus’ reply to Love God and love your neighbor as yourself, however, was a summation of all of the laws, and was perfect and complete.
“The greatest commandment to love God and neighbor is connected with the great commission, to go and make disciples,” the reflection stated. “Living a life of love for God and neighbor is about making disciples. It is living a life of the principles of the kingdom of God, a life of love and justice and mercy and right living.”
