Whitmer 800
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently had some of her executive orders overturned.

The idea of shuttering the economy due to Covid is deeply unpopular with Michigan’s Catholic population.

Of those polled by Michigan Catholic Tribune, 87 percent, or 441 respondents, disagree with any future economic lockdowns.

Michigan Catholic Tribune asked poll respondents, “Would you support another economic lockdown?”

The poll ran Oct. 15-21 on Facebook and was targeted to Catholics living in Michigan, resulting in 507 responses.

In Michigan, the state’s high court recently ruled Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s emergency executive orders locking down the state were unenforceable.

Whitmer has been rated one of the most aggressive governors

Leading public health experts from Harvard, Stanford and Oxford have advocated against future lockdowns

In the face of much lower fatality rates and the long-term economic damage to the economy, some argue lockdowns could have a more devastating impact on the long-term health of those in lockdown.

The WHO has also called lockdowns “harmful” with such a pronounced economic impact on communities that public health outcomes may be affected for a generation.
