St. Brigid of Kildare in Midland shared a note from the pastor on conscience and Catholic Social Teaching.
“While your vote is a great place to apply what you have heard and learned, I hope this series has helped you think with the Church,” Rev. Andy Booms wrote in the bulletin. “We are not individual practitioners of Christianity, we are part of the Church.”
We are, therefore, called to practice prudential judgement when it comes to issues of conscience, Rev. Booms wrote. We must always be cautious when we feel as though we are figuring things out on our own, as the Church provides us with helpful information as to how best to make important decisions.
“This past week we took a new step in Church structure and were incorporated as our own Michigan not for profit cooperation. This step makes Saint Brigid of Kildare of Midland its own cooperate structure and we own our own assets,” Rev. Booms wrote.
With this in mind, Rev. Booms asked that parishioners give to the Christ Mission Appeal to give to the church and its fund to give back to those in need.
Finally, Rev. Booms wrote that one of the important points of Catholic Social Teaching is that of the Right to Life.
“Last, but the most important topics for us to consider in our actions,” Rev. Booms wrote. “If any life is not received as a gift from God can any life be considered sacred? If the greatest commandment is to Love God and our Neighbor how can we love what we think is disposable? Have you ever struggled to recognize someone’s life as a blessing? How were you able to reconcile that struggle?”
Let us think deeply about our calling to protect life and honor the dignity of humans, made in the image and likeness of God.
