Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Frankenmuth shared a note from the pastor on Oct. 25.

Rev. Patrick Jankowiak wrote that while the elections are understandably a challenging time where emotions run high, that all parishioners should refrain from wearing political apparel or accessories both before and after the election.

“When we gather for the Eucharist, however, the entire atmosphere is ideally geared towards unity,” Rev. Jankowiak wrote in the bulletin. “That is, a church interior should feel like a non-partisan oasis. But political advertisements worn to Mass can hinder that.”

Rather than showing our division in political stance, let us show our unity in the bond of Christ.

Parents are requested to monitor their children closely and report if their children have been exposed to COVID. If there has been risk of contamination, it may be necessary to make changes at the parish.

Christmas Mass will be organized next month, before November 15. Any of the plans made by the parish could be subject to change if the Diocese issues new directives, though. It is all completely dependent on the condition of the pandemic.

While some parishes have been anointing the sick, the Diocese of Saginaw is instructing parishes to limit exposure to those who are sick and may be contagious.

“Consequently, at the present time, we’re putting on hold the anointing of the sick during Mass,” Rev. Jankowiak wrote.

Finally, Rev. Jankowiak shared a reflection on the possible origin of trick or treating.

“Centuries ago, from the time of All Hallows’ Eve to All Souls Day, people made ‘soul cakes’ and ate them as a way to share a meal with someone who had died,” Rev. Jankowiak wrote, “Many families were too poor to buy the needed ingredients, so children would go to people’s home and ask for some, saying, Soul cake! Soul cake! I pray thee for a soul cake! One for Peter, two for Paul, and three for God who made us all!”
