St. Scholastica Parish is located in Northwest Detroit. It is currently a small community with incredible potential for growth. This job will require someone with a pioneering spirit and a mission focused mindset. 

Job Description:  St. Scholastica Parish is excited to announce that we are recruiting for a new position — Engagement Coordinator — to serve on our staff. We are seeking a mission-focused individual to work with our team and parish community in Detroit.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated people-person who understands parish life and wants to serve the community by increasing engagement with the parish at all levels.

THE CORE PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE IS TO: Plan and execute marketing and communications best practices — both online and in person — with the goal of supporting St. Scholastica’s mission to ensure effective, anticipatory and responsive communication to all those engaged or seeking engagement with the Church.

This includes those that attend Mass regularly, registered parishioners and individuals and families that are in St. Scholastica’s boundaries.

GOAL:

● Equip, energize, and mobilize current and engaged parishioners to become parish ambassadors

● Increase participation among current but non-engaged parishioners

● Increase opportunities to invite people outside the parish (potential parishioners) to participate in the life of the parish

● Assist St. Scholastica Parish with opportunities for current and potential parishioners to encounter Jesus

● Assist St. Scholastica with opportunities for current and potential parishioners to grow in their faith in Jesus.

● Assist St. Scholastica with opportunities for current and potential parishioners to witness Jesus in the company of those known to parishioners and unknown to parishioners. 

ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES REQUIRED BY THIS JOB:

● Outreach - effective, anticipatory, and responsive communication (online and offline) to new and potential parishioners to accompany them as they seek engagement with parish services and community

● Responding to inquiries through personal phone calls, emails, mailings, and in-person

● Community management via Fostering authentic Christian encounters among the parish community through a community-focused content strategy

● Develops and fosters relationships with current, new, and potential parishioners

● Managing contact and parish engagement data

● Manage volunteers

● Execute effective marketing and communications strategy (digital and print) for parish campaigns and ministry initiatives

● Manages the parish event calendar, news and announcements, social media channels, and email communication

● Oversee the parish marketing and communications efforts and work with the Archdiocese of Detroit and Parish Teams to implement best practices for engagement at the parish level

● Planning and executing parish signature events and supporting major events put on by ministries

● Sourcing content and keeping website/community hub up to data

● Assists the Parish Leadership in planning and prioritizing integrated marketing efforts and coordinate staff efforts to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner

● Serves as liaison between St. Scholastica and the Archdiocese of Detroit Department of Communications

● Stay up-to-date (with support from AOD and other communication professionals) on community and marketing best practices

● Attending parish and community events (including nights and weekends)

● Coordinates the gathering of information and processing reports as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

● Bachelor’s degree required with 1-2 years of ministry experience (full-time, part-time or volunteer), preferably in a parish setting

● Skills needed but are not limited to: excellent organizational skills, high level of attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, excellent oral and verbal communication skills.

● Knowledge of parish life and ministry best-practices

● Familiar with social media and willing to learn and execute integrated marketing tactics

● Ability to work a flexible schedule and routinely attend weekend and evening parish activities

● A uniquely mission-oriented person who is able to align their work with a larger goal on a daily basis

● Serves as an active and visible witness to Catholic identity, mission, and values

DESIRED SKILLS:

● Digitally intuitive professional with a willingness to be trained in our integrated marketing strategy and to deploy it in a community-focused way with the goal of increasing parish engagement at all levels

● Great relationship-builder who leads with empathy and likes to be the first to say, “Hello”

● A strong desire to build relationships with individuals over months and years

● Enthusiastic, dependable, and eager to learn and contribute to marketing and communications efforts
