St. Sabina in Dearborn Heights shared several updates from the pastor in the church's Sept. 27 bulletin.
The Rev. Jim Lopez noted that he is grateful to serve in a parish that is filled with such selfless individuals who have been serving the community for over 60 years. He expressed his gratitude on Priesthood Sunday, which comes in the final week of the month of September for those in the U.S. and around the world.
“It is interesting how the Mariannhill priests have celebrated funeral Masses, baptisms and weddings here without complaining or a placement of conditions, just a selfless display of service for all of us here, from the beginning becoming part of our parish family,” Lopez said in the bulletin.
Rev. Don has been in isolation because of COVID-19 but is still staying involved thanks to his penning weekly articles for the parish.
Fr. Lopez reflected that while many men do say yes to following God and living a life of ministry, it can be difficult to measure up to the expectations that people place on them.
“Yet, the beauty of our priesthood is that God gives us an opportunity to do better for his people today than we did yesterday, and build upon today’s works for a better tomorrow,” Lopez said.
He also provided an update to the parish about the CSA campaign, which has a goal of $45,000.
“I consider the circumstances and the conditions we are living under and we are doing okay,” Fr. Lopez said. “St. Sabina will meet our target, but we may not go beyond. We will work it out without taking away from our current budget. I ask for your continued support in this financial campaign for the Archdiocese and please know how grateful I am for the financial gift that helps St. Sabina and the families throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit.”
