St Hyacinth Parish recently issued the following announcement.
Close to the middle of September, we arrive at the Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time and the corresponding Twenty-Fourth Week in Ordinary Time as well. At a mass just for our candidates and their immediate family members, we will celebrate the Rite of Confirmation and our children and youth will also be come to the Table of the Eucharist to be nourished by the Bread of Life for the first time.
Please keep them in your prayer as they complete t h e i r sacramental initiation. Monday, September 14, 2020, is the liturgical Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. At 6:00pm at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, Bishop Gruss will preside at a Mass of Atonement. Bishop Gruss, in announcing this mass, said, “In our own Church, the sexual abuse of children and youth by clergy has been a source of tremendous sorrow, anger, and betrayal. It has deeply wounded victims and their families. I ask all of you to join me in praying for healing of those who have been hurt, and I call upon each one of us to renew our vigilance and compassion…In this Mass, I will lay before God the Father the sorrow of all victims of child abuse and neglect and in particular the victims of child sexual abuse by clergy. I ask that you join me in this liturgy, which will be available by live stream , in seeking reconciliation with God and forgiveness of sin.” Tuesday, September 15, 202, Bishop Gruss will celebrate the annual liturgy that is the Chrism Mass. Normally celebrated during Holy Week, this is the liturgy where the blessing of the Oil of the Catechumens and the Oil of the Sick are blessed and the Sacred Chrism is consecrated. Due to the shut down and no public liturgies being celebrated back in April, this liturgy was postponed until now. This week Wednesday is the Bishop’s Charity Golf Classic for the purpose of “raising funds f or the education of seminarians and the promotion of vocations in the Diocese of Saginaw to share the love of Jesus Christ.” I and a team of our parishioners will be competing. We are, in a sense, the defending mixed-flight champions of last year. This is event is important for the education of our seminarians, including two of our own parishioners, Jacob Hugo and Daniel Christe. Please keep them and all of our seminarians in your prayers.
Friday of this week will find our Jewish brothers and sisters celebrating their “new year” with Rosh Hashana. Our “new year” will begin in a couple of months with the First Sunday of Advent, Sunday, November 29, 2020. I cannot say it often enough that the only means we have to mitigate the spread of the virus and find our way to a more normal life is to do what we can and that is as we all know by now: practice social distancing, wear a face mask or covering, wash your hands often, and sanitize frequently touched surfaces and objects. And remember these practices as you come to church. When we returned to the public celebration of masses, Bishop Gruss stated, “These protocols and guidelines will require strict adherence for all public liturgies.” Please be mindful of one another and please cooperate in fully practicing these measures. We do it out of charity and concern for one another.
Thank you.
Prayerfully,
Fr. Rick
