Dina Dubuis, Madonna University assistant vice president for enrollment services and registrar, will be named the 2019-2020 Lion of the Year for the Livonia Lions Club, a release issued on the university's website said.

The Lion of the Year is “someone who accepts a leadership role and exceeds expectations, actively participates in many club functions, takes on a challenge and moves it forward, and goes the extra mile,” Lion Matt Collins said in the release.

Dubuis has exemplified this role as vice president of the club by always being supportive and offering her discernment to students while participating in the many events the group holds. Among the events that Dubuis was involved in include the Kids Coalition Against Hunger annual event for preparing packaged meals and helping to redesign the website for the Lions Club.

Dubuis has also been chosen as the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship for humanitarian service. The Melvin Jones award is a great honor, given the fact that Jones founded the first Lions Club in Chicago in 1917.

“The Melvin Jones Fellowship Award recognizes Lions who, over an extended period of time, exhibit the ideals of service to the community as demonstrated by the Founder of Lionism.” the release said.

"Lion Dina epitomizes what it means to be a Lion, to serve those in need in our community, to represent and promote the ideals of Lionism to those around her, and to make a difference as a member of the Livonia Lions Club," Collins said.

The goal of the Lions Club is to help those in the communities of Livonia and Redford who are blind or visually impaired, deaf or hard of hearing or who have special needs.

“The mission of the Lions Club is to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs,” the release stated.
