In the Aug. 2 weekly bulletin from the Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Clawson, the Rev. Tony Richter asked his congregation, “Have you ever really been hungry?”

About 1.1 billion people worldwide are hungry today, Richter wrote, and more than half of those are under the age of 13.

“It seems so overwhelming that I as an individual am not sure what you and I can do sometimes,” he wrote. “Educating yourself on how to be part of the solution is the best way to start.”

There are local, area, state, national and world organizations fighting hunger, Richter said, urging parishioners to get involved.

“Get educated and choose for yourself how to spend your time, talents and treasure solving world hunger,” he wrote. “A time of uncertainty creates a perfect time to reflect and pray on the blessing God has given us. God protects us and brings us to Holiness, especially when we have feelings of anxiety. Take a few minutes to reflect on the blessing in your life. After I remember how many blessings I have been given, I am inspired to seek ways to serve God in my life.”
