Divine Child High School in Dearborn has canceled the Mark Carpenter Falcon 5K race scheduled for Aug. 15, “due to events that are out of our control, unfortunately,” the school announced on its website.

“We hope to see everyone next year,” the announcement said. “If you already registered and submitted payment, your refund will be issued next week."

The race is held annually in memory of Carpenter, who was a member of the class of 1968.

The event traditionally includes a "tot trot" for children and a 1-mile fun run in addition to the 5K. Proceeds benefit the Divine Child Alumni Association and Divine Child High School Girls Cross Country team, the school said.
