Fr. Bob McCabe of Dearborn’s Church of the Divine Child reflected on his 25 years of service in the July 5 church bulletin to mark the silver anniversary of his ordination.
“June is a month where I celebrate my birthday, my ordination anniversary, and many of you kindly wished me a happy Father’s Day,” McCabe wrote. “Thank you so much!”
He went on to express the feeling of disbelief when he considers a quarter century has passed, and shared his feelings of gratitude and humility.

“The last few weeks while I have been talking with my classmates, none of us can believe we have been ordained 25 years,” McCabe wrote in the bulletin. “However, when I look at young parents and think back to when they were in second and third grade, then it does seem like 25 years have passed. Along with my classmates, I am so grateful and humbled to have had the opportunity to serve God and His people for many years.”
Throughout the two and a half decades, however, McCabe made it clear there has never been a dull moment as he experienced joy and sorrow with members of the parish that he said has become like family. He also said he’s enjoyed his recent year at Church of the Divine Child.
“Even amid this global pandemic, it is impossible to be bored at Divine Child,” he wrote. “There are so many things taking place. In the last few months, many of those things have been behind the scenes. Nonetheless, Divine Child is always a wonderful and a blessed place to be.”
McCabe concluded by thanking his supporters for their warm welcome upon his arrival a year ago.
“Together, we will help each other to fulfill the plan Jesus has for each of our lives,” he wrote. “God’s Peace and Joy.”
