Longtime members of the special-needs program at Christ, Our Light Catholic Church in Troy, brothers Tony and Joe Dierker both enjoy being on the alter.

The July 5 edition of the church biulletin, The Spotlight, quotes the boys' father as saying that Tony's gift is joy while Joe's is reverence. Their dad explained that Tony can barely stay still or quiet during the consecration of the Eucharist because he's overcome with excitement. He believes Tony sees the "True Presence of Our Savior."  Joe, his dad says, "has great reverence for God, the Holy Family and all of the saints. He prays much of the day – every day.”

Parishioner Tom Schrift has known the brothers for a long time. Schrift is Joe's teacher now and says the young man "never ceases to amaze me."

Schrift said one of his happiest days was when Joe called him "Uncle Tom." He also explained the best part of Mass each Sunday is when both brothers offer him the 'Sign of Peace.'
