Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Detroit recently announced that it will still be celebrating Rev. Don Archambault's 50th ordination anniversary this summer, taking into account the recommended safety precautions in this era of COVID-19.

Pastora Minister Mary Davis wrote in the parish's June 28 weekly bulletin that the church would be honoring Archambault with an outdoor Mass at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23. A tent will be set up with plenty of room for social distancing, Davis wrote.

The service will take place in a grassy area to the east of the convent on Pembroke Avenue in Detroit. Davis wrote that individually sealed cups of Guernsey Farms ice cream and bottled beverages will be served after the Mass.

While the parish found a way to still come together to mark a major milestone for Archambault amid the COVID-19 pandemic, another event had to be postponed. That was a dinner cruise to raise money for the Haiti Outreach Mission.

The cruise is now scheduled to take place during the fall. Even though the fundraiser has been delayed, Davis said the people of Haiti still need help since they're also dealing with the effects of the coronavirus. Those who'd like to make a monetary donation can do so by sending it to Haiti Outreach Mission, 5700 Croos Rd., Ste 100, Troy, MI 48098.
