Blessed Sacrament School in Midland closed permanently on July 1, the parish announced.
Projected declines in enrollment and the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the parish budget were cited as factors in the decision.
“We are proud of the students we have been able to educate in the Catholic tradition over the years,” the parish said in a statement. “As a parish, our commitment to and responsibility to Catholic education does not cease with the closing of the school.”
The parish will continue to participate in the education of the Midland-area Catholic community, the statement said.
“The ability of the school to continue to operate in recent years, even as Midland public schools experienced significant school closures, is a testament to the passion and commitment of our families, staff and faculty,” the statement said.
The parish is committed to providing financial assistance to current school families who are seeking a Catholic K-5 education, the statement said.
