Dozens of volunteers showed up to help the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament help beautify its neighborhood.

The Cathedral hosted a neighborhood cleanup event earlier this month to pick up the grounds of the Cathedral on Woodward Avenue in Detroit and the area around it, according to its Facebook page. MHT Housing and its owner, Van Fox, sponsored the cleanup.

The Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament initially put out the call for volunteers on Facebook. Equipment such as gloves and garbage bags were provided for the volunteers. However, gardening tools were welcomed. Volunteers were encouraged to wear long pants and dress for the work they would be doing.

Precautions were taken in accordance with social distancing guidelines as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Rev. JJ Mech showed people around the Cathedral as part of an afternoon tour of the facility. Volunteers were treated to complimentary National Coney Island food. There was also a petting zoo for children who showed up to help.
