Catholic Charities West Michigan continues to feed the community despite COVID-19 making it more difficult while increasing the need.
The mission of the Catholic Charities was to “feed the hungry, council those who are struggling, and build strong families throughout West Michigan,” Phil Meade of Catholic Charities told WGVU.
Meade said food is available to anyone who needs it. One of their serving locations is God’s Kitchen in Grand Rapids, where they provide to-go meals daily. The location is open from 12:30 pm to 2 pm, and warm meals are provided for anyone who shows up. The food they serve is healthy and hearty. In God’s Kitchen, they've seen an increase of 50 people during the COVID-19 pandemic, up from the usual 250 to 300 they see.
The menu includes options like Tuscan lobster salad and portobello mushroom burgers. The chefs are creative with the food, and the team focuses on providing a good experience.
In Muskegon, those who need boxes of groceries can find them there.
Catholic Charities has partnerships with Feeding America, local grocery stores, and restaurants in the area.
But the organization needs help from the community. Help feed the needy by making a tax deductible donation online today and learn more about the program.
Catholic Charities explained on its Facebook page how far donations can go: $22 - 10 meals at God's Kitchen; $59 - To-go materials for 100 meals; $220 - 100 meals at God's Kitchen; $660 - 1 day of meals at God's Kitchen, and; $4,620 - 1 week of meals at God's Kitchen/
“During this crisis, it so important for us to provide these meals, and all support helps,” Meade told WBVU.
You can also support them by shopping their Amazon Wish List, that has items they need for to-go orders.
